Hiraeth, is a study on divisions in society catalysed against the backdrop of the third government imposed national lockdown. The work has no defined narrative, allow the audience to project their own emotions, and use the work however they see acceptable.

Exploring the condition of solitude and artistic vision the work explores the effect of prolonged solitude on the artist, and their frustrations with creative process. Adopting the role of flaneur, the artist disregarded expected process allowing the work to be lead by a sense of longing and allowing happenstance to guide the narrative of the work.

The work stands as an unravelling of the artists own emotions, and in wider context as a documentation of the divisions; in friendships, relationships, education, emotions experienced as a consequence of current social condition. Furthermore standing as testament to the emotional state shared by a generation, sharply divided by financial, political and social circumstance, largely ignored by society over this past year.

Hiraeth, takes it name from the welsh word for an earnest longing or desire, a sense of nostalgia and regret. The feelings of longing for a home that no longer exists or perhaps never did, the irrational bond felt with a time, a place or a people.
