Central to my practice is an exploration of the insular experience of self; an expression of ones insecurities and fragility. The paintings emerge as expressive representations of memories, once removed from reality as a sort of fragment. They are a way of exorcising, or expressing deep emotions and particular moments I have experienced or witnessed. Throughout my painted practice is a fascination with mechanically altering the canvas, whether that be through object interactions, installing them in specific situations, or breaking the integrity of a single image through multiple panels. Objects that I place in relation to the paintings enhance the narratives, and look to ground these fragments into the real through their physical presence. From pipes and bikes, to table legs and rope, they intend on directing the viewer into the canvas, centring the focus on the painted image.

The sculptural and video works, similarly to the titles of the paintings, have a playful humour within them that juxtaposes the intensity of the paintings. A recent use of casting my own body has physically placed me within my own installations, pulling my ‘self’ into the aforementioned themes of the work, directly, in-front of the viewer. Throughout all these different methods of making, found objects are a constant within sculptural works/extensions to the paintings, whether they are left unaltered or added to through process.
