Based in London, Artist and Curator Adama Dercilia Bari works across a range of media to examine the aesthetics of disruption in physical and virtual spaces. Interested in Black geographies with space-making Dercilia’s ‘Let me take up space/Imma take up space’ 1.5m x 10m acrylic paint on paper sculptural painting, embodies this. Her practise tests unsaid boundaries and territories in the myriad of everyday spaces that black women occupy, highlighting how ‘being present’ and taking up space can invertedly seem as a form of activism or political/social agitation. Although ultimately her hijacking and documentations are that of self-love and community.
